Family Days - The largest Family Days program in the Canadian Forces

This two-day event takes place annually in June and is the Halifax DND Communities largest family event of the year. The event attracts over 35,000 personnel with exciting activities for members and their families.

 

Canadian Forces Halifax Sports Program

The Canadian Forces Sports program has played a vital role in the development of sport in Canada and is designed to promote fitness and good health to our Canadian Forces members. The program offers a variety of sports activities and events to its members, enabling them to develop leadership skills, and self-discipline while promoting teamwork and esprit de corps.

 

Navy 10K Run

This premiere running event is one of the best-organized and most popular running events in the Canadian Forces and in the province of Nova Scotia and attracts over 600 runners from across the province.

 

 

Navy Fitness Challenge

This annual event takes place in September at McDonald Beach. The race consists of three legs; a 750 meter swim, a 30 km bike ride and a 12 km run. The event is growing in popularity with Military and civilian personnel, DND and civilian employees competing in this event. This event is open to teams and individuals.

 

 

Falls Lake Recreational Facility

 This 55 acre scenic resort and peaceful atmosphere is located less than an hour from Halifax on Falls Lake near Windsor, Nova Scotia. This facility attracts approximately 40,000 personnel annually and specialized packages are offered for corporate or community groups.

 

 

2010 Canadian Naval Centennial

In 2010, Canada's Navy will mark its 100th anniversary of service to our country and our aim is to build and strengthen in Canadians an appreciation for their navy and to demonstrate the navy's ongoing role in our national development. Our theme is to "Bring the Navy to Canadians" by honouring the past, showcasing the current and reinforcing the need for a navy in our future. The centennial will be a significant occasion both in our navy's and our nation's history. We will both commemorate and celebrate our achievements and recognize our obligation to Canada with the naval centennial slogan: Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit.

 

 

Civic Mess Dinner

This unique event is co-hosted by Commander Joint Task Forces Atlantic and by His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Halifax. The mess dinner is steeped with tradition and ceremony. It is an opportunity to recognize and forge new friendships and partnerships between the military with local government and commercial interests.

  

 

Base Commander’s Golf Tournament

TThis popular tournament hosted by the Base Commander, is held in the fall of the year at Hartlen Point Forces Golf Course. This event attracts over 30 teams and includes meals and prizes.

 

  

Mooseheads DND Appreciation Hockey Game

Canadian Forces Halifax Personnel Support Programs in partnership with the Halifax Moosehead Hockey Club pay tribute to DND personnel by show casing and paying tribute to our military community with two Appreciation hockey games.

 

TV's Kids' Superstars Tour Maritime Canada

For the first time ever in Canada, the stars come out to shine in a power-packed hour-long live show when Christmas Playdate with Max & Ruby, Miss Spider, and the Bananas in Pyjamas, hosted by The Fairly OddParents come to theatres in cities in Maritime Canada. Presented by SRO Entertainment, Christmas Playdate is multi-media musical storyline featuring some of children's television's best-known characters.  This sold out event will be taking place at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Friday, November 28th 2008.

12 Wing Shearwater 90th Anniversary Dinner

The military air station known today as 12 Wing Shearwater celebrated 90 years of dedicated service to Canada on 24 October 2008.

This event was enjoyed by an estimated 300 Canadian Forces and DND personnel including current and past members of 12 Wing, local dignitaries, provincial and federal politicians, and high ranking military officials, notably the Chief of the Air Staff and Maritime Staff, Commander Joint Task Force Atlantic and the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, The Honourable Mayann E. Francis.
